WILLIAM JAY VECHNAK
William J. Vechnak, age 75, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2019.
A Visitation Service will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083 . Immediately to follow at 5:00 p.m. will be a Celebration of Life Service.
William was born on May 14, 1944 in Rock Springs, Wyoming. He was the son of Joseph Vechnak and Tessie (Timmons) Vechnak. He was one of six boys including, Joe, Tom, John, Jack, and Ken.
The family settled in Coalgate Oklahoma, where he was raised and graduated from Coalgate High School. After graduation, William served his country in the United States Airforce during the Vietnam War. On July 9, 1966, William was joined in marriage with his wife, Kathryn (Provence) Vechnak. Together they were blessed with two daughters, Joyce and Carolyn. Upon William's completion of military service, he furthered his education at the Oscar Rose College in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. First and foremost, William's family was the most important. He was a carpenter and was a member of the Carpenter's Union Local #777 in Harrisonville, Missouri. William created for himself a very successful career and was a Superintendent at J E DUNN for 30 years until retiring.
In addition to the many accomplishments and milestones throughout William's life, many knew him as an avid and talented poker player. William loved playing poker and would attend many professional tournaments every year with his wife, Kathryn.
William is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Tessie Vechnak; and two brothers, Jack and Tom Vechnak.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Kathryn Vechnak; two daughters, Joyce Sampson (Todd) and Carolyn Vechnak Buasri; four grandchildren, Austin, Sydney, Samantha, and Madeline; and two great granddaughters, Ava and Aubree. William is also survived by three brothers and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Creutzfeldt-Jacob Disease Foundation, 3610 W. Market St., Suite 110, Akron, Ohio 44333 .
