WILLIAM WAYNE HALTERMAN

William W. (Bill) Halterman , age 86, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

A Visitation Service will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Cullen Funeral Home, 6112 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. Interment and a graveside service will be held immediately following the visitation at Raymore Cemetery, Raymore, Missouri.

Bill was born on May 6, 1932 in the of town Hardin, Missouri. He was the son of Charles Otis Halterman and Vena Louise (Jones) Halterman. Growing up, Bill had eight siblings including, C.O., Wilma, Jack, Patricia, Janice, Carol, Evelyn, and Richard. While in high school Bill played as many sports as possible, excelling in football and basketball and he kept a lifelong love of them. In school he always enjoyed reading and math because 'it just made sense'.

After high school, Bill served his country in the United States Air Force for eight years as a Veterinary Technician, serving in Korea and back home in Missouri at Richard's Gebaur Air Force Base. Bill talked about his time in Korea and said that Korea was the coldest place he had ever been and that the guard dogs had to be kept inside the fences to keep them safe. In life, he and Donna were blessed with two children, Robin and Gregory. Later in life he was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren who he dearly loved. He always made time for them and had a special affection for each of them that he showed in every interaction.

For thirty-three years Bill worked for the post office in Belton, Missouri as a letter carrier. He made friends everywhere he went and never met a stranger. He enjoyed people and people watching and would go early to events to watch the people come in. He loved fishing and hunting, and was a huge sports fan, especially MU/Mizzou. Bill had a love of animals and there were no strangers in that part of his world either. Bill had a famous green thumb He could take three tomato plants and turn them into a season's worth of tomatoes to feed not only him but all of those around him who wanted any. He could grow plants in soil that was mostly rock and clay and was determined to help anyone who wanted to grow plants be successful. He grew up farming, hunting, fishing, working hard, and never really stopped any of those till he had to. He was always a provider, whether that was helping his Mom or caring for the family that he grew of his own later. He was generous with his time, affection, stories, experience, advice, and anything he had that could help another.  He always had a new story to tell and a joke to share. He shared his sense of humor and love of life with everyone he met.

Bill is survived by his loving children, Robin Bellamy (Robert) and Gregory Halterman; brother Richard Halterman; eight grandchildren, Terasa Harpole (Justin), Jessica Skinner (Lane), Nathan Halterman, Nicholas Halterman, Madalyn Halterman, Brogan Bellamy, Mathin Vitti, and Tristan Vitti; and three great grandchildren, Paytan, Boston, and Griffin.
