Obituary

WILLIAM KEITH BUTLER

William Keith Butler, age 76, of Belton, Missouri passed away peacefully in his home on July 21, 2025.

Bill was born in Newark, New Jersey, on March 19, 1949, the son of Wilfred S. Butler and Madeline E. Lorina.

Bill attended Essex County Vocational and Technical High School in Bloomfield, NJ, where he was a carpentry major. Bill was in the Student Council, Key Club and National Honor Society. For four years he played basketball, varsity soccer and ran track. Shortly after graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy. When his time was up there, in 1972 he joined the East Orange Police Department in New Jersey. He spent 26+ years serving and protecting the citizens of East Orange and he served them well. He received numerous commendations throughout his career. After retirement in 1998, Bill moved to Belton, Missouri. Although an avid NY Yankee fan, Bill started working for the KC Royals, which fulfilled his love for baseball. He worked at the stadium for 20 years.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Wilfred and Madeline Butler, his sister, Priscilla (Butler) Sutphen and his niece, Sarah Elizabeth Madasz.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl L. Butler, brother, Wallace Butler and wife Francine, brother-in-law Daniel Madasz Sr. and wife Deborah, 16 nieces and nephews and 52 great nieces and nephews, with more to come.

Bill loved the Lord with all his heart, soul, mind and strength. He knew his Heavenly Father was with him always, whether on the streets, on patrol or later in life as he faced health issues. He trusted God with his days, boldly living life and loving and serving others. God gave Bill a deep love for children. He shared his heart with children of AWANA, special needs children, children who needed a dad, and children who are now adults. He carried them always in his heart. We will all miss him deeply, but he is in the arms of his Savior. Heaven is now his home!
