Obituary

Wanda R. Johnson

October 27, 1939 – February 2, 2024

Wanda Johnson passed away peacefully on February 2, 2024, at her home in Raymore, Missouri. She was 84 years old.

Wanda was born October 27, 1939, in Monticello, Kentucky to Edward and Mary (Burnett) Dick. She was the second oldest of five children. In the 1940's, her family moved to Hamilton, Missouri, where she remained until her graduation from Penny High School in 1957.

Wanda will be remembered as career-oriented and ambitious. She worked hard and rose through the ranks to a director and then a division chief role during her 30 years with the General Services Administration (GSA) in Kansas City, Missouri. Her work took her to nearly every state in the Union and occasionally overseas. She took pride in her many years of public service and accomplishments, and she relished visiting new places and meeting new people.

Outside of work, Wanda enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests. In her early years she took up oil painting, she skied and played tennis, and she earned a private pilot license. Later, she pursued her love of travel with numerous adventures with family and friends to Mexico, the Caribbean, and across Europe. When at home Wanda enjoyed antiquing, refurbishing furniture, sewing, reading, gardening, and spending time in the sunshine.

Wanda was preceded in death by Robert, her husband of 41 years; daughter Debbie Liggatt; sister Twyla Shay; and her parents. She is dearly missed by those who survive her, including her children DeAnna Byler, Darrel Johnson (Jennifer) and Dana Brown; son-in-law Mark Liggatt; grandchildren Keanon, Callie, Brady, Lauren, Olivia, Beau, and Hilary; great-grandchildren Chloe, Claire, and Matilda; brother Benton Dick (Linda); sisters Maude Katherine Utt and Theresa Cox (Jim); and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.
