VIRGINIA K. WISZNEAUCKAS
Virginia K. (Cook) Wiszneauckas, affectionately nicknamed "Cookie" by her close friends and family, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017 surrounded by her family. Virginia was born October 6, 1918 in Topeka, Kansas. She was the daughter of Howard Lee Cook and Ethel (Cardinell) Cook. On June 15, 1941 Virginia was united in marriage to George R. Wiszneauckas (WWII veteran, Army Captain) in a ceremony officiated by her grandfather the Reverend Orville Lee Cook. During her 62-year marriage Virginia lived in Denver, CO, Silver Spring, MD, Bartlesville, OK, and Raymore, MO.
Virginia was a direct descendant of three Mayflower passengers. She was a member of and very active in the Disciples of Christ Church. She was a member of the DAR.
Virginia loved family gatherings and graciously welcomed all. She had a varied career and retired from the National Institutes of Health. She played the organ, was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening.
Virginia's life reflected her strong faith in a loving, merciful and compassionate Creator.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband George R. Wiszneauckas; parents Howard and Ethel Cook; one brother, Howard L. Cook, Jr. She is survived by her sons, David Wiszneauckas (Sandra Spatz) and Eric Wiszneauckas (Patricia McQuiston); two brothers, Robert and O.L. Cook; five grandchildren, Geoff and spouse Megan, Erica and spouse Robert, Ginny and spouse Gordan, Joy, Elyse and four great-grandchildren, Grace, Xavia, Zariah and Jack.
A Memorial Service will begin at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Foxwood Springs Living Center in the Bromwell Lounge, 1500 Foxwood Drive, Raymore, Missouri. A private burial will be held at Mt. Muncie Cemetery, Lansing, Kansas. Contributions may be given to JDRF, 215 W Pershing Rd #300, Kansas City, MO 64108 (www.jdrf.org), Fellowship of John Foxwood Springs, and or a charity of your choice.
