Virgil was born on December 23, 1921 in Pilot Grove, Missouri. He was the son of Raymond Kempf and Ida Newman. Growing up, Virgil was one of seven children.
He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy from October 1942 to November 1945 . Virgil's military service was extremely important to him and it played a significant role in developing him into the man we all know and love.
On May 21, 1949 Virgil was joined in marriage with Betty Ann Elaine Pabst. Together they were blessed with two sons, Joe and Mark. As a man of Catholic faith, Virgil was a member of the Knights of Columbus and attended Mass at St. Sabina Catholic Church. Sadly in 1985, Virgil was faced with the passing of his wife, Betty.
Virgil was a co-founder of the Ivy Bend Fire and Rescue at the Lake of the Ozarks, serving as President and volunteering as a fire fighter using skills he learned in the Navy. He also worked in management with Ford Motor Company in Claycomo, Missouri. In addition to Virgil's avid service to his community and country, he also enjoyed fishing at the lake.
Virgil was later joined in marriage on October 17, 1987 with his wife Betty Jean Scoles. Again, Virgil was faced with the passing of his second wife, Betty Jean, in 2009.
Virgil is preceded in death by his loving wife of 36 years, Betty Ann Elaine; loving wife of 22 years, Betty Jean; sister Catherine Wessing and husband Cyril; and three brother in-laws, Billy J. Rude, Lester "Bud" Stone, and Ray McKerlie.
