Obituary

Vernon Leeroy Gregory, Jr, 70, Belton Mo, passed away Friday January 22, 2010 with his family at his bedside at St. Luke's Hospital. Vern was born in Kansa City, Mo, March 19, 1939, one of three children of Vernon Leeroy and Frances Louis (Martin) Gregory. He spoke often of attending North East High School and his boxing with the "Golden Gloves Association" as a young man. On November 4, 1961 he married Beverly Ann Bremer at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Kansas City, Kansas. As a young married couple they lived in Kansas City, MO, where their four children were born. Later they moved to Freeman, MO, and lived there until their final move to Belton, MO. Vern worked as a Manor bread man, then at Larson Lumber Co. which started his career working in various lumber yards and mill work companies. He enjoyed working on vehicles as a young man, and a lifelong hobby of attending car shows. When his sons were in cub scouts he coached their baseball team, and when the children were older he helped coach their church youth group softball team. He and his wife Beverly, enjoyed fishing all through their time together, taking their children with them from a young age, and even continuing to go frequently themselves as "empty nesters". Vern attended worship regularly through his life and his current home of worship was Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Raymore, MO. He was a devoted husband and father to his family and a great friend to many. He will be remembered for his humorous personality and smiling face. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his older sister Frances Laverne. He is survived by his devoted wife, Beverly (Bremer) Gregory of 48 years, his daughter Robin (Gregory) Johnson and husband Brian, son Lee Gregory, daughter Kimberly (Gregory) Hattery and husband Chris, son Scott Gregory; grandsons Daniel Johnson, Kris Johnson, Terry Johnson, CJ Hattery, Tim Hattery, and Michael Gregory; granddaughter Crystal Hattery; Great-grandsons, Dakota Johnson, Mason Johnson, Kolten Johnson, Connor McGain-Hattery; Friends Luke Balducci and Vinnie Balducci. Visitation will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 310 Johnston Parkway, Raymore, MO 64083, Monday January 25, 2010 7:00pm – 8:30 pm and funeral services on January 26, 2010 at 10:00 am at the same location. Interment at Belton Cemetery, Belton MO. Cullen funeral home, of Raymore is handling preparations.
