STEPHEN "STEVE" F. HEFNER
Stephen "Steve" F. Hefner, age 76, of Peculiar, Missouri, passed away on March 31, 2018, surrounded by the love of his family, at St. Luke's Medical Center on the Plaza, Kansas City, Missouri.
Funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m., with Visitation from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Thursday, April 5th, at the First Baptist Church in Grandview. Burial will take place at the Garden City Cemetery in Garden City, Missouri.
Memorial contributions may be given to the church.
Steve was born June 20, 1941, in Harrisonville, Missouri. He was the son of Ralph and Onita (Nelson) Hefner.
On September 1, 1963, Steve was united in marriage with Daphne "Kay" Demetreus. Together, Steve and Kay were blessed with two children, Brian and Laura.
Steve attended William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. He graduated from the University of Central Missouri (formerly CMSU), where he received his Bachelors of Philosophy and Sociology degree. He worked in the office of Safeway and later FoodBarn, retiring as a buyer/merchandiser.
Steve was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Grandview, where he served as a deacon. He was also a lifelong Eagle Scout, Scout Leader, and a member of the Tribe of Mic O Say. In his spare time, Steve enjoyed reading and working puzzle books, as well as stained glass art. He loved his many fishing trips, especially to Canada. Fishing with his children was always part of their fun camping adventures to many state and national parks. Steve and Kay loved planning trips together, and traveling the country.
Above everything in his life, Steve treasured his LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ; his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Onita Hefner.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Kay Hefner; his son, Brian Hefner (wife, Michelle), and his daughter, Laura Hill; brothers, Bruce Hefner (wife, Virginia), and Gary Hefner (wife, Carolyn); sister, Kathy Slaughter (husband, Jim); five grandchildren, Aaron, Justin, Austin, Celinda, and Sabrina; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
