Stephen Kent Evrard (1949-2017)

The family of Stephen Kent Evrard, 67, Cleveland, Missouri, announces his passing on January 18, 2017. He was receiving hospice care at his home of thirty-one years with family at his bedside. A memorial service in celebration of Steve's life will take place at Cullen Funeral Home in Raymore, Missouri, on Friday, January 20, 2017, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Steve was born on December 8, 1949, in Evansville, Indiana. He grew up in Murphysboro and Decatur, Illinois. In 1968, he graduated from Stephen Decatur High School, where he was a member of National Honor Society and a varsity athlete in baseball and basketball. In 1972, he received the Bachelor of Science degree in entomology from the University of Illinois where he also did graduate work. During his college years, Steve became an expert scuba diver. He taught scuba classes and made many diving trips.

Steve was employed as a research entomologist in the Ag-Chem divisions of Mobil Oil Company, Uniroyal and Rhone-Poulenc. He eventually settled in the Kansas City area. In 2012, he retired from Ecolab where he worked for the final years of his career.

Steve enjoyed a wide variety of interests and activities. These included science, history, classical music, art exhibits, fine dining, sports, pets and gardening. More than anything else, he was devoted to his family and their home.

On August 8, 1980, Steve married Carol Ann Friederichs of Kansas City. She and four children survive: Jeffrey Edward of Kansas City, James Mathias, Overland Park, Kansas, Kathryn S. Kincaide of Harrisonville, and Kristine L. Nazir of Baltimore, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his parents Adolph and Mabel, twin brother Michael and sister Paula Ann McNeely. He is also survived by his brother John of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and grandchildren Peyton and Paige Kincaide, Thierry and Iona Evrard.

Steve's family wishes all to know that Steve was happy because he was good.

Messages of sympathy and caring may be sent to Cullen Funeral Home in Raymore. The family also has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Truman Medical Center Charitable Foundation Palliative Care Plan or to Crossroads Hospice.
