Obituary

Sheryl Lynne Johnson, 52, went to be with the Lord on May 16, 2010 after a seven month battle with colon cancer. Born January 17, 1958 in Alton, she was the daughter of John Robert and Patricia (Searles) Scoggins of Godfrey. Sheryl taught in the Special Education Department of the Belton School District in Belton, MO for 28 years. She also served as a Process/Transition Coordinator for the past several years. Recently, she was instrumental in starting the L.I.F.E. Academy Program in the Belton School District. This program helps Special Education High School graduates learn basic life skills in order to transition into society. She was an active member of Belvidere Heights Baptist Church where she was the organist for many years. On August 26, 1978 she married Nathan Rice. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1979. She married Timothy Wendell Johnson on June 19, 1982 in Raymore, MO. He survives along with their four children, Dustin Johnson of Kansas City, MO, Kelsie Johnson, Hayley Johnson and Sadie Johnson all of Belton, MO. She is also survived by a sister, Dawn Bowles and husband Ralph of Godfrey and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lon Scoggins. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Visitation will continue from 5:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Red Bridge Baptist Church, 4901 East Red Bridge Road, Kansas City, MO. Reverend Chris Hicks, Reverend Wayne Geiger and Reverend Shawn Wallace will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Park Lawn Cemetery in Kansas City, MO. Memorials may be made to the Belvidere Heights Baptist Church or the L.I.F.E. Academy Program in the Belton School District.
