SAMUEL V. SPARKS

Samuel "Sam" V. Sparks, age 94, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 16, 2019.

A visitation service will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2019 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. A burial will be held at Raymore Cemetery in Raymore, Missouri following the funeral service.

Sam was born on April 13, 1925 in rural major county, Oklahoma to Charles Victor and Mable Sparks. He was the seventh child of nine. Sam attended the Ringwood Oklahoma School and his senior year in Helena, Oklahoma. In his younger years, Sam attended the Methodist Church. He operated the produce and creamery in Ringwood and married Dortha Stricker on January 16, 1944 in Cherokee, Oklahoma. In 1950 he sold the creamery and moved to Enid, Oklahoma where he worked for Peerless Ice Cream Company. In 1952 he moved to Kansas City, Kansas where he worked in the construction business for twenty-five years and he and his partner established their own company where he worked until he retired in 1989.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mabel Sparks; and nine siblings.

He is survived by his loving wife of over seventy-five years, Dortha Sparks; daughters Peggy Werth (Dick) of Olathe, Kansas and Betty Jean Robinette (Gary) of Buckner, Missouri; son Charles Lester Sparks (Pat) of Lenexa, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Decker, Sammi Raymond, Tina Robinette, Marcie Harrison, Vince Sparks, Milli Montgomery, and Joe Werth; thirteen great grandchildren; and twelve great-great grandchildren.
