Obituary

RUTH IRENE HARMS

Ruth Irene Harms, 95, peacefully went to meet her Lord and Saviour on April 13, 2026.

Ruth was born at home on July 8, 1930, in DeSoto, Kansas. She was one of five children born to Edward and Ruth Cochran who raised them on the values of faith and family.

While she was a current resident of Warrensburg, Ruth lived most of her life in Grandview, MO. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church there. She was a devoted and protective single mother of four children for many years. While working at Solo Cup she met the love of her life Ervin Harms. Their 1st date included all four children, and a family was instantly formed.

Ruth was a hard-working woman and held positions at Solo Cup, Grace Garment Co, Dodson Insurance, and General Services Administration. After retirement she worked at Mid Continent Public Library and the school cafeteria, where many times she would gladly provide one of her grandsons a quarter so he could buy an extra treat. One of her greatest joys was family. Her travels included going with family or going to visit family. She was the Matriarch to 50 and we have been so lucky that she was ours. She loves us all a bushel and a peck.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Ruth Cochran; Husband, Ervin Harms; Siblings, Phillip Cochran, Fred Cochran, William Cochran, and Jean Wolfe; Daughter-in-Law Karen Harms; Son-in-Law Terry Hayden; and Granddaughter, Pamela Schwind.

She is survived by 4 children, Jean Harms, Ed Harms, Susan Hayden, and Becky (Greg) Cary. She is loved immensely by 10 grandchildren, called Grandma Great by 22, and blessed with 14 Great Great Grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews that adored their Auntie Ruthie.

We will miss her but find comfort in knowing that she is with God and a long line of family waiting to greet her with hugs and endless Mocha Frappes. We were blessed with countless family members by her side, caring staff at Country Club of Warrensburg, and the best hospice nurses at One Community Hospice all providing the utmost care, compassion, and dignity to a lady that absolutely deserved it.

Visitation will be held at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri on Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will follow immediately at Belton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to One Community Hospice in Independence, Missouri online at the following link: https://onecommunityhospice.com/donation/
