RUTH ELLEN EGGLESTON
Ruth Ellen Eggleston, 92, of Raymore, MO reposed April 26, 2011. She was born December 1, 1918 to Dr. LeRoy S.S. Ott and Pansy Gensman Ott in Garden Plain, KS. Her only sibling, LeRoy, passed away in 2002 in Topeka, KS. Ruth began school in Montezuma, KS and graduated Leoti, KS High School in 1935. She attended Strickler's Business School and Washburn College in Topeka, class of 1942. She worked for the Grand Union Tea Company and later was financial secretary at Topeka's First Methodist Church. She was employed by the Santa Fe Railway from 1943 to 1946, where she met and married Arlo Dale Eggleston on October 12, 1946. Dale's passing in 1959 left Ruth with 2 young children, Barbara (3 ½) and James (2). Ruth and family moved to Larned, KS in 1960. With help from her family, including a devoted mother, aunts, and in-laws, she felt blessed by a loving Father in heaven. She was known in Larned by her many charitable acts of kindness. Ruth enjoyed baking and would share her wonderful pies with friends. Ruth also had a love of learning and delighted in helping patrons of the Jordaan Memorial Library where she worked part-time. In February of 2011, she moved to the assisted living wing of Foxwood Springs Living Center in Raymore, MO. During her lifetime, Ruth was active in Beta Sigma Phi in Topeka and the United Methodist Women in Larned, KS. More recently, she was a member of the Raymore Christian Church. Ruth is survived by a daughter, Barbara Ann Haas and her husband Christopher of Wayne, PA, and a son James F. Eggleston and his wife Jill of Leawood, KS. Ruth enjoyed 4 grandchildren, Dave and Drew Haas and Reid and Claire Eggleston. Ruth and her family would like to thank the caring staff of Grace Hospice and Foxwood Springs Living Center. Memorials can be made to Grace Hospice of Kansas City, Raymore Christian Church or the First United Methodist Church of Larned, KS. Arrangements for services are pending. There will be a private family burial near her birthplace.
