ROY EDWARD STITES

Roy Edward Stites, 85, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, at Kansas City Hospice House.  Funeral services will be held at Evangel Church, 1414 East 103 ^rd St, Kansas City, Missouri, on Monday, March 25, with Visitation at 10:00 and Service at 11 a.m.  A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 26 at 10 a.m., at Price Cemetery in Goodman, Missouri.

Roy was born October 16, 1933, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Bernice (Eppard) and Thomas Stites.  Following Roy's graduation from Goodman High School in Goodman, Missouri, he served in the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis, Washington from January 1954 until honorably discharged in January 1956.   Roy married his high school sweetheart, Della Mae Price, on Valentine's Day, 1956 in Denver.  They returned to the Kansas City area later that year and remained in the area throughout their lives.

Roy worked as a truck driver at Graves Truck Line / ANR Freight Systems until he retired in 1991.   Roy enjoyed spending time with family, traveling with his wife (including vacations in most every state in the U.S.), woodworking, fixing whatever needed to be repaired (car repairs provoked much grumbling, so he gave that up), building things for his children and grandchildren, serving others, and attending men's Bible study.

Roy was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle.  Through his integrity, humility, wry wit, positive attitude and selfless love, he developed strong and lasting relationships with countless friends over the years.  He will be greatly missed.

We rejoice that Roy has been reunited with his beloved wife, Della, who preceded him in death in November 2017.  Survivors include Roy's sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Lana Stites (Olathe) and Mark and Leigh Stites (Overland Park); brother Harold Stites (Patsy); brother-in-law Ron Price (Carolyn); grandchildren Ashley Stites (Daphnye Hubbard), Emily Copley (Christopher), Kathryne Stites, Joshua Stites, Jill Allen (Rob), and Brittney Obert (Jeremiah); and great-grandchildren, Ava and Charlotte Allen and Juliet Obert.  Roy dearly loved his nephews and nieces:  Steve Stites, Scott Stites, David Price, Duaine Price, Doug Price, Darin Price (deceased), Derrick Price, Denise Jansen and Dianne McClure.   Roy was also preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Bernice Stites.
