ROSS CHARLES COWAN

Ross Charles Cowan, age 81, passed away peacefully at home on September 27, 2026. Ross was born in Washington DC on May 13, 1945, to Robert and Gertrude Cowan, and spent his childhood in Capital Heights, Maryland. Ross lived a life defined by service, dedication, and an enduring commitment to his family and community.

A proud veteran of the U. S. Army, Ross served his country with honor during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to public service as a federal employee with the General Services Administration (GSA), working for many years as a skilled elevator inspector. Beyond his professional life, Ross was a familiar and beloved face on the local softball fields, giving his time generously as a coach to his daughters, Beth and Emily, and mentoring countless young athletes over the years. Ross was known for his quick wit, a fun sense of humor that kept everyone laughing, and a kind, soft smile that brought warmth to any room. At home, he took great pride in maintaining a beautiful lawn, cheered passionately for the KC Royals and Chiefs, and deeply loved his cat, Pepper, who brought him immense joy.

Ross was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Connie, just two weeks prior, his son, Tobey, his grandson, Jacob, his great grandson, Oliver, his brother, Robert, and his parents.

His legacy of love and strength lives on through his surviving family, including his children Jenny Everson (Scott), Steve Clark (Iris), Beth Baldwin, and Emily Waldroup (Craig), his brothers, Harry Cowan (Sue), and Michael Cowan, along with his many cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

A joint visitation will be held for Ross and Connie on October 17, 2026, at 11:00 am at Cullen Funeral Home in Raymore, with a memorial service to follow at 12:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow with military honors for Ross, at Wills Cemetery in Peculiar, Missouri. Following services, all are welcome to gather for a meal at the Cowan household to celebrate their lives together.
