Ronald Wayne
Martin
May 3, 1958 — Jun 20, 2026
Ronald Wayne Martin, 68, of Overland Park, passed away on June 20, 2026. He was born in 1958, in Clayton, Missouri, to Norbert and Betty Frolker Martin. He attended St. Charles High School and furthered his education at Westminster University and received his AA in Graphic Design from State Technical College of Missouri. He worked for several years at various engineering firms in the Kansas City metro area, but the bulk of his career was spent at Kiewit Corporation (23 years), first as an electrical designer and eventually as Quality Manager for their Nuclear Power division. Ron and Janet Spainhower Martin were married on August 15, 1981. Exactly 13 months later they welcomed their daughter, Katharyn Elizabeth Martin. Six years later, James Tyler Martin was born. Ron was gifted in many areas, including cycling, participating in the MS150 event three times (150 miles in less than two days). Realizing he wanted to add some speed to his traveling he became an avid Harley Davidson owner. He and Janet spent many hours, leathered and helmeted up, traversing the landscape of Kansas and Missouri. He also took up bread baking and he put his heart and soul into every loaf. And fishing. Lots of time in Kansas, Arkansas and Estes Park, Colorado waters. He created beautiful water features in several of our homes. He was a self-taught woodworker, whittling walking sticks, and taking on multiple artistic projects. He loved spending time with his family, whether it be in Estes Park or California or casting lines with Kate, Tyler and Estes. He was a good husband, son, brother, father, son-in-law and Pop. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard and Roger. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Janet, daughter, Kate and her partner, Gen Amaro, son Tyler and granddaughter, Estes Martin, all of Overland Park, KS. We have been blessed with a cadre of loving, loyal friends who have covered us with love, prayer and laughter during these difficult years. A Celebration of Life will be held in July. Details are pending, but will be announced as it is finalized. The family suggests donations to the Kansas City Hospice House.
