IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roberta Dean
January
November 22, 1935 – March 12, 2023
ROBERTA JANUARY passed away March 12th, 2023 at Foxwood Springs in Raymore, Missouri. She was born Roberta Dean Ballard on November 22nd, 1935 in Neodesha, Kansas. She graduated from Neodesha High in 1953. She married Max "BOB" Raymond January on November 11th, 1955. They were married for over 67 years. Bob worked for U.S. Nuclear Construction which took them to many places around the country where Bob worked in building missle silos.
The couple ultimately settled in Raymore, Missouri in 1968 where the population at the time was 250 people. Roberta worked as the Raymore municipal clerk. Raymore was so small that she wrote out the water bills by hand to send to residents. She saw many changes in Raymore over the next 55 years making her now one of the old time residents of Raymore.
In addition to raising her children Teresa (January) Hensley and Max Raymond January II, Roberta worked at selling Real Estate with Coldwell Banker in Raymore and Belton. She had her own women's dress shop in Raymore during the 1980's. She later worked as a Bail Bondsman until she retired at age 81. As a bondsman she carried stuffed animals for any child who had to accompany adults to the jail. In her younger days, Roberta was a great bowler and once bowled a score of 300 which placed her on the "Bowling for Dollars with Fred Broski" television show.
She was recently predeceased by her husband who passed away on December 16th, 2022. She was also predeceased by nineteen brother in law and sister in laws. She is survived by daughter Teresa (husband Kenny Hensley) and son Max January of Raymore, her grandsons whom she adored, Max (Sunny) January III and Frank Hensley (wife Heather) and her great grandchildren Beric Hensley and Violet Hensley of Winnetka, California. She is also survived by her some forty nieces and nephews, her sister-in-law Linda Nunnink (husband Lenny), nephews Trae, Tiley and Tosh Nunnink and their wives and children, her brother-in-law Frank January, nieces Cori (January) Jones, Cari (January) Russell, Cristi (January) Midkiff and their husbands and children, and her nephew Doug January (wife Barbara) and their children, all of whom were incredibly devoted to her until her death.
Roberta was beloved by her family and many people in Raymore and Belton who knew her. She could be found frequenting many of the businesses and garage sales in Raymore where she engaged in banter and teasing for which she was famously known. Roberta was always up and jovial. She will be sadly missed by her family and the people of Raymore. Her family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Foxwood for their dedication to her care and comfort.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Raymore Cemetery in Raymore, Missouri.
