Robert Nicholas Sullivan Jr.

Robert N. "Bob" Sullivan passed away September 16, 2013. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, September 19, 2013; Rosary at 9:45 followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m., St. Sabina Catholic Church, 700 Trevis Ave, Belton, MO 64012. The burial will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery, KCMO. Robert was born Dec. 3, 1927, to Robert N. Sullivan Sr. and Mary Cecelia (Lafferty) in Tucson, AZ. He grew up in Kansas City, MO attending St. Peter's Catholic Grade School and later Bishop Hogan High School. After serving in the US Navy as a Corpsman at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA, Robert returned to Kansas City earning a degree in Economics from Rockhurst College. Bob married Shirley Ann Hohenschild in 1950 and together they raised seven children. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 35 years, retiring in 1986. He was a life time member of the Knights of Columbus. And, he was a member of BSA Troop 30, Trail Blazers and Tribe of Mic-o-say of Christ the King parish KCMO. He enjoyed trapshooting, and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs. Robert will always be remembered for his strong faith in God, love of family and love for country. Robert is survived by Shirley, his wife of 63 years and their seven children: Mary Schmidt (Glen), Patricia Fontenot (Warren), Jim Sullivan (Marsha) deceased, Marjorie Winner (Dick), Teresa Glano (Jim), Cecelia Sullivan, and Kathleen Newman (Troy), 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. The family thanks the staff of Rehabilitation Center of Raymore for their care and support for Robert. The family also thanks the staff of Continua Hospice for their care, support and friendship during this time. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bishop Sullivan Center, 6435 Truman Rd, Kansas City, MO 64126.
