Robert Spaulding, age 92 of Raymore, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 27th, 2026 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Robert’s remains will be laid to rest next to his wife Karen and son Doug at Raymore Cemetery in Raymore, Missouri.
Robert “Bob” Spaulding was born in Toledo, Ohio, on June 6, 1933. He served in the Air Force for 4 years and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. Utilizing training he received in the Air Force, he became an air traffic controller, which he did for nearly 25 years, working in Detroit, Minneapolis, and Kansas City. Following his time as an air traffic controller, Bob worked at the Department of Agriculture as well as Kriegel’s Jewelry before enjoying a lengthy, well-deserved retirement.
Bob would tell you that the greatest accomplishment of his life was the journey he took with his wife, Karen. They were married for 68 years when she passed, and the love they shared was an inspiration to all that knew them. They loved each other dearly, dated each other their whole lives, and provided a strong and steady foundation for each other and their 4 sons. Their lives were filled with laughter, affection, and adventure. They eventually travelled to all 50 states, took numerous cruises, attended Broadway plays, and genuinely enjoyed life to its fullest. Bob’s love and attentiveness to Karen as her health diminished was truly inspirational.
Perhaps the greatest tribute to Bob, though, was his amazing dedication to his wife and family. He was a dedicated husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, coach, mentor, story teller, sounding board and friend. He loved sports, particularly cheering and armchair coaching the Chiefs and Buckeyes. He will definitely be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
Bob will undoubtedly be missed for his humor, quick wit, and passion for life. He spent 92 years living life and collecting great stories that he would willingly tell to anyone who would listen, including family, friends, and, eventually, his hospice nurses. Bob’s stories included topics like: growing up under difficult circumstances, heroic acts by him, having guardian angel moments, meeting celebrities and politicians, and, memorable times with family and friends. It’s debatable whether the best stories were told by Bob, or, about Bob.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Karen Spaulding; parents Frank and Margaret; son Douglas Lee Spaulding; sister, Shirley Herrmann; and brothers, Richard and Kenneth Spaulding.
He is survived by three sons, Mark Spaulding (Valerie), Richard Spaulding (Teresa), and Dean Spaulding (Dawn); seven grandchildren: Jordan Spaulding, Daniel Spaulding, Elena Spaulding, Tanner Spaulding (Mae), Mackenzie Harper (Ethan), Lara Tran (Donovan), and Kelsey Spaulding; and three great grandchildren: Carson Spaulding, Olivia Durand and Bennett Harper.
