ROBERT W. COLEMAN, JR.
Robert W. Coleman, Jr., age 93, of Raymore, Missouri peacefully passed away, surrounded by the love of his family on February 16, 2017 at St. Luke's East Hospital, Lee's Summit, Missouri.
Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10-11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Raymore. Burial will take place in Raymore Cemetery.
Robert was born May 17, 1923 in Cass County, Missouri. He was the son of Robert W. Coleman, Sr., and Gladys M. (Garten) Coleman. On February 26, 1950 Robert married the love of his life, Jacqueline B. Brown, and together they were blessed with two daughters, Karen and Deane.
Robert lovingly supported his family and worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Lake City Ammunition Plant up until his retirement. He was a hard worker who was also a farmer of cattle and hogs; he even bailed hay until the summer of 2016 at age 93!
Robert grew up hunting and fishing but his love of gardening stayed with him throughout his entire lifetime. He also enjoyed card games, solving Rubik's cubes, watching football, and baseball. One favorite pastime in particular that has made a lasting impression on Robert's family was the annual Winter Taffy Pull. Robert was known to be able to stretch taffy from one side of the house to the other! There is no doubt that the inspiration of his taffy tradition will live on for generations to come.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Elaine Cunningham; his parents, Robert Sr. and Gladys Coleman; siblings, Buford Allen Coleman, Flo Todd, and Katherine Lawler.
He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Jacqueline B. Coleman; daughter, Deane Grube (Jim); four grandchildren, Scott Sharrer, Ryan Cunningham (Angie), Chase Grube (Mackenzie), and Kayla Grube; three great-grandchildren, Haley Scharrer, Ayden and Quinn Cunningham; brother, Larry Coleman (Julie); nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Memorial Contributions in Robert's honor may be given to the First Baptist Church of Raymore, 116 South Washington Street, Raymore, Missouri 64083.
