Rita Kay (Waldron) Harmon

Rita Kay (Waldron) Harmon was born in Lexington, Kentucky on July 19, 1952, and passed away on January 01, 2026, at age 73 in Trinity, Florida. Rita was a longtime resident of the Kansas City area —Lee's Summit, Raymore, and Kansas City, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her father, Reverend LaMoine Dale Waldron; her mother, Vera Rose (Wilkins) Waldron; her brother Kurt Lynn Waldron; and a granddaughter, Sarah Ashley Harmon.

Rita married her high school sweetheart, Stanley Alan Harmon on July 31, 1971, in Kansas City, Missouri and they divorced in 1988. Rita and Stan had two children: Dale "Aaron" Harmon (Jennifer Beth Redding Harmon) of Enid, Oklahoma; and Duane Andrew "Andy" Harmon (Elaine Guy Harmon) of Holiday, Florida. Rita also leaves behind her sister, Carol Sue Waldron Rosebrough (Walter M Rosebrough, Jr.) of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; three grandchildren: Michael "Tyler" Harmon (fiancé Maida A. Duncan) of St. Louis, Missouri; Alexis Kay Harmon Ward (Bennett Ward) of Lee's Summit, Missouri; Austin Gregory Harmon (fiancé Marissa McCormick) of Iowa City, Iowa.

Rita dedicated her life to living out her Christian faith and was a student of the Bible. Rita was a past member of the Broadview Christian Church, the Hickman Mills Church of Christ, the Raymore Christian Church, and the Lee's Summit Christian Church.

Rita graduated from Ruskin High School in Kansas City, Missouri with honors in 1970. She went on to study Music at Phillips University, Enid, Oklahoma; Florida College, Temple Terrace, Florida; the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida; and the University of Missouri - Kansas City in Kansas City, Missouri.

Rita was an accomplished musician and had a passion for sharing her love of music with others. Rita enjoyed playing a wide variety of instruments including the French Horn, Harp, Guitar, and Bass Guitar, but she most loved playing the Piano and Singing. Rita studied classical Piano and Vocals and performed throughout her adult life. Rita shared her gift with others also by teaching.

A family graveside service will be held at the Raymore Cemetery in Raymore, Missouri at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Rita's memory to the Little Light House, Tulsa, Oklahoma. www.littlelighthouse.org
