Obituary

RICHARD A. MARTIN

Richard A. Martin, 75, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away May 1st at Research Medical Center.  Rick was born May 26th, 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio, the fourth of five children born to Robert L. and Virginia E. Scott Martin.  Rick grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Paseo High School and UMKC.  In his younger years, Rick was an Eagle Scout, played football and ran track.  Rick worked at General Motors for over thirty years at the Leeds, Fairfax and Janesville, Wisconsin plants.  Rick married Linda L. Leonard on May 28th, 1965 in Kansas City.  Rick and Linda had two children, Sean and Angela.  After retiring from General Motors, Rick became a full-time grandpa to his six grandchildren, always being there for them.

Rick's biggest joy in life besides being a grandpa, dad and husband was to make things work.  From old tractors, to cars to things around the house, he was an old school mechanic and professional tinkerer.  Rick also loved to tell stories about growing up, the things he did and the places he went.  He was a wise man that studied all matters and was not afraid to tell you what he thought.  Rick wanted nothing more than to see Linda, his children and grandchildren be happy and successful.  He was a kind and gentle man.

Rick joins in heaven his parents, Robert and Virginia, his brother Bob and sister-in-law Lenille, sister Shirley and brother-in-law Reg Popplewell.  Rick is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Linda of the home.  His brother Scott Martin and wife Judy of Blue Springs and sister, Jan Popplewell of Alphretta, Ga.  His son, Sean Martin and wife Kristina of Raymore, MO.  His daughter, Angie Hill and husband Mark of Oreana, Ill. Sean and Kristina's children, Quincy Harris and husband Ben, Toni, Shane, and Patrick.  Angie and Mark's children Jacob and wife Jess and Melanie.  Rick also leaves several nieces and nephews throughout the country.  There are no services planned at this time; however, there will be a Celebration of Life later this summer.

In place of flowers, we ask that Rick's memory be honored with contributions in Rick's name to either; Raymore-Peculiar Public School Foundation PO Box 789 Peculiar, MO 64078; or at https://raypecfoundation.networkforgood.com/projects/69603-2020-annual-campaign ; or Decatur Christian School 137 South Grant St. Forsyth, Illinois 62535.
