Obituary

RICHARD K. BROOKS

Richard "Dick" K. Brooks, age 82, of Lake Winnebago, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.

A memorial service will be held on a date yet to be determined later in the summer.

Dick was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on February 17, 1939, to Thomas I. Brooks and Margaret Street Brooks. After graduating from high school, Dick went on to continue his education at Carnegie Mellon University, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He also earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Cincinnati. Dick started his career working for General Electric Corporation, and then worked for Dana Corporation as a Plant Manager in Richmond, IN, Laurinburg, NC, and Paragould, AK. His last job with Dana brought him to Ft. Wayne, IN, where he lived for thirty years with his first wife Patricia G. Brooks.

With the passing of his high school sweetheart, Patricia, after 54 years of marriage, Dick met Sharon Morash at his granddaughter's wedding in August, 2016. After a brief courtship, he married Sharon in December and moved to Lake Lotawana, Missouri. Dick loved living on the lake. The couple enjoyed their expanded family, church work, bridge, gardening, and time together.

Dick loved family, travel, and church. Family vacations were very important to him whether spent on a lake in northern Michigan, traveling west to visit family in Idaho and Montana, visiting America's great national parks, captaining a sloop in Pamlico Sound or the Caribbean, and visiting every continent except Antarctica with his spouses. He enjoyed playing Bridge, was an avid sailor, and liked to play golf with his family. Dick was active in United Way in Fort Wayne, and at the public schools, loved to help kids improve their reading skills or share pictures and stories from his travels. Everywhere he lived, Dick was an active member of a Christian Science Church, including 30 years at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Fort Wayne, where he served as a reader and Board member. Most recently, Dick was a member of the Christian Science Society in Kansas City, Missouri.

Dick was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia G. Brooks; and daughter, Suzanne Quaife.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Morash Brooks; two children, Jeff Brooks (wife, Margie) and Kim Haig (husband, William); grandchildren, Alex and Jackson Haig, Meredith Brooks Tinsley (husband, Michael), Elizabeth Brooks (husband, Caleb Brewer); sister, Linda McCabe; Sharon's two children, Mark Morash (children, Kailey and Kaden) and Lynn Littell (husband, Michael and children, Zachary and Joshua).
