REBECCA LYNN MACKEY
Rebecca Lynn Mackey was born August 25, 1959, to Reford H. Mackey and Beverly C. Lowe. She was the last of four babies born into this beautiful union. Jesus carried her home on September 22nd at 9:26PM surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and the love of her life. She was reunited for a celebration with her Dad and Mom leading the pack followed by her Granddaughter Taylor, and her brothers Ken and Michael Woodard. Greeting her with all the love were her fur babies; Deoge, Baby, Bubba, Tina, and Bella.
Those left behind to hang on without her are her children; Jessica Wood (Jason), Joesph Skivers (Tiffany), James Skivers (Katie), and her bossy furry son Kilo. Her siblings who miss their baby sister; Sandra Wood, Deanna Doelz, and John Mackey. Her grandchildren who have fond memories of their Nonna; Gabrielle, Cody, Candice, Thomas, Payton, Kaelyn, Christian, Rylee, Leighton, Anthoni, Carson, Presley, and Hartlyn. She was blessed to have two beautiful great-grandchildren, Oliver and Lily. She had MANY nieces, nephews as well as great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews!
Rebecca wore many hats in her life. She cleaned houses, tended bar, was a plant specialist at Earl May, she worked in factories, and various other odds and ends jobs to always make sure her children had what they needed. Her working career ended with being an owner operator through Swift Transportation. This tiny woman drove a semi around the US delivering goods to the world. Rebecca loved her plants. So much so, her dining area in her tiny apartment was a literal jungle. She had the greenest thumb and took great care keeping them happy. Please say a prayer for her plants as her daughter now has them and they will need prayers. She loved her dogs…past and present. They were her babies and she treated them as such. She volunteered at the KC Pet Project and loved helping care for animals. She was incapable of sitting through a movie but loved to read and learn about anything she could. She loved the history channel, documentaries, and anything that taught about history. She studied our family history and had researched lineage from more than 200 years. Taking care of people was her passion. She worked in the health care field taking care of the elderly. In her younger years, she enjoyed overnight visits with her OG grandchildren. They would spend weekends at Nonna’s house! As she got older and her health deteriorated, her time with grandchildren turned into day visits creating memories with them by doing crafts, baking, and gardening. Even though the overnight visits became rare, she loved them all the same. Rebecca loved taking care of people. She did so even after she left this world. She was an organ donor, and she saved 3 lives the day hers ended. Forever giving to others even when she didn’t have it to give.
The people that lived in Rebecca’s world will miss her. We will celebrate her in November in a private celebration of life. We will notify those invited to this event when it has been set. If you would like to honor Rebecca, we suggest a donation to the KC Pet Project or your local animal shelter. If you loved her but don’t have the money to donate, we suggest doing something kind for someone. It costs zero dollars to be kind and she would love that.
