RAY E FREEMAN

Ray E Freeman, 87 of Belton Mo., passed away May 20, 2013. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am Friday May 24th, Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to KC Hospice House.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irma and his sister Barbara Doran. He is survived by his children Richard and wife Marge. Bob and his wife Maggi. Mark and his wife Debby. Daughter Patty Nixon and his sister-in-law Marilyn Alexander and husband Joe, 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Ray was a veteran of World War II where he served in the Marine Corp 4th Marine Division. Ray served his tour of duty on Iwo Jima, Saipan and Tarawa. While serving on Saipan he was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart. Ray was the last surviving Marine in Kansas City who served on Iwo Jima and was an active participant in the Marine Corp League of Kansas City.

Ray was a veteran police officer of 30 years of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department retiring in 1985. Upon his retirement after serving in multiple positions on the force in dispatch and the field he was awarded officer of the year for life saving actions of a construction worker who had been electrocuted.

Ray was a beloved husband, wonderful dad, and a great grandpa, and will be missed deeply.
