NORMA JEAN MCDANIEL
Norma Jean "Sis" McDaniel, age 88, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at home on Monday, July 18, 2022.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed immediately by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Sis will then be laid to rest at Hickory Creek Cemetery in Jameson, Missouri 64647.
Sis was born in Jamesport, Missouri on October 15, 1933 to Dean and Louise McDaniel. After graduating from Jamesport High School in 1951, Sis continued her education and received her teaching certificate from Northwest Missouri State. She then taught for the Jamesport School District for seven years while also coaching the junior high school basketball team. Her passion for softball started at the age of 16 when she was asked to play on a team in Kansas City. Sis pitched and played for the Kansas City Dons softball team from 1949 – 1969. She played on teams which won twenty metropolitan softball tournaments and played in twenty Midwestern Regionals where she was named tournament MVP ten times. She competed in ten national championship tournaments and was a member of the 1966 Clearwater, Florida team which finished third, the 1958 Orlando, Florida team with finished fifth, and the 1955 Portland, Oregon team which won sixth. Sis won All-American honors in 1955, pitching two no-hit games in one day during the world tournament. Sis was inducted into the Wyandotte County Hall of Fame in 1958, one of the youngest athletes to earn the honor. Sis worked for the Kansas City, Kansas, Parks and Recreation Department for 42 years as the sports supervisor. She was a coach, mentor and organizer of youth activities. Throughout her life she was a woman of strong Christian faith.
Sis was preceded in death by her parents, Dean and Louise McDaniel; brother, Donald D. McDaniel; brother in law, Robert J. Brodzin; great nephew, Brice McDaniel; and life long friend, Ethel Ritter.
Left to cherish Sis' memory are her two brothers, Carl L. McDaniel (Sandy) and William R. "Bill" McDaniel (Barbara); sister, Betty Jo Brodzin; sister in law, Virginia McDaniel; eleven nieces and nephews, Donna Harrison (Barry), Marsha Rametta (Ross), Debbie Stone (Bruce), Donald McDaniel (Kara), Chris McDaniel, Brian McDaniel (Beth), Amy McDaniel, Steve Brodzin, Teri Gibbs, Shelley Steele (Jim), and Lori Mansur (Scott); many great and great-great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and her canine companion, Molly Lou.
The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to all of her caregivers.
