NEWTON KENNETH BAXTER, SR.

Newton Kenneth Baxter, Sr., 86, of Raymore, MO passed away June 6, 2014. Funeral service will be 11 AM Monday, June 9, 2014 at Blue River Bible Church 15608 Fairchild Dr., Kansas City, MO 64147 with visitation 10-11 AM. Burial will be in Peculiar Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association 6800 W 93rd St, Overland Park, KS 66212. Newton was born January 17, 1928 in Tupelo, Oklahoma, the son of Newton and Lottie Harmon Baxter. After graduation, Newton joined the Air Force, and then married the late Naida Ruth McNiel. Newton proudly served as a veteran of WWII, Korean, and Viet Nam Wars with a total service time of 28 years and 14 day. After his military career, he retired a second career from KU Medical Center. His passion for detail and artistic abilities were shown in his painting, wood crafting, jewelry making, gunsmithing, and gardening and also enjoyed reading. Newton was preceded in death by his parents; son, Newton Kenneth Baxter, Jr. and three siblings, Bobby, Delana and Loretta Baxter. He is survived by his wife Tina Strey Baxter of 12 years; daughter, Beth Prettyman; step-daughters, Terrie Harmon and Katrina Moore (Joe); brother, Donnie L. Baxter; sister, Joyce F. Baxter; 4 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
