Obituary

NANCY JO THOMPSON

On Tuesday, March 31st, 2020, Nancy Jo Thompson, wife and mother of three, passed away at the age of 73.

Nancy was born on November 24th, 1946 in Bentonville, Arkansas to R.H. "Jack" Ricketts and Noline (Porter) Ricketts. Her brothers Rue Ricketts and Jay Ricketts also preceded her in death. The family is thankful they are all reunited together in Heaven.

Nancy married James "Rick" Thompson on July 21st, 1974. During their 46 year marriage they enjoyed many adventures together as well as being committed to their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Rick, of the home; son, Troy and daughters Dana Thompson and Dona (Tim) Nelson; 6 grandchildren: Jennifer (Jon) Sowell, Ashley (Jon) Roebuck, Austin Baumgartner, David (Hannah) Nelson, Philip Nelson, Jonathan Nelson; 6 great grandchildren: Carly Jo Noblin, Gabriel Sowell, Gabriel Cox, and Kellie, Kathryn and Grayson Roebuck. Nancy also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and a large extended family. We will miss her dearly.

One of Nancy's proudest accomplishments was her non-traditional college graduation from UMKC. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in May of 1986. Nancy wore many hats throughout her working profession. Her longest and most rewarding profession was 29 years at St. Luke's Hospital where she served as Manager of Patient Transportation from July 1974 - October 2003.

Nancy was an avid reader in her earlier years. After her reading days slowed down she began her painting hobby. Over time, she became a gifted painter, mostly of flowers and landscape. Nancy also loved taking pictures and created many memorable keepsake albums. She was a great cook, known fondly for her delicious fudge at our family gatherings. In addition to these memories, Nancy will mostly be remembered for her love and devotion to her family.

Unfortunately, due to the current COVID19 state restrictions, there will not be a traditional funeral, however the family will be hosting a virtual online Celebration of Life memorial service for Nancy. The online service will be on Saturday April 18th, 2020 at 11am. For details to log in please email dona@tdnelsons.com. We ask that you keep Nancy's family, as well as all front line responders in your prayers, as together we all work through this unprecedented time in our lives. If you are interested in making a contribution in honor of Nancy Thompson's life, the family suggests contributions to her church where they perform community outreach to fight hunger. The address is Raymore Presbyterian Church, 204 S. Jefferson St., Raymore, MO 64083.

Checks can be made out to Raymore Presbyterian Ministries.
