MILDRED JEAN NISLEY
Mildred Jean (Knight) Nisley born August 14, 1922 in Grand Junction, Colorado, the daughter of Basil T. and Velma Knight, peacefully passed on to be with her Lord December 21, 2011 surrounded by her family.
Mildred graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1940 and graduated from Colorado A&M (now Colorado State University) with a degree in Home Economics.
Mildred married Bryant Nisley on May 11, 1944. Their first child Kaye was born in 1945, Rick in 1950 & the twins, Jeff and Julie in 1952. In 1956, they moved to Denver where Mildred taught Parent Education/Pre-School in various school districts. She then taught in the Omaha Public Schools when the moved to Papillion, NE in 1963.
In 1968 Mildred received her Masters of Human Development from the University of Nebraska and was inducted into the Omicron Nu Honor Society.
After retiring, Mildred received the distinguished "Omaha volunteer of the year" for her volunteer work with the Woman's Abuse Hotline.
In 1985 Mildred and Bryant moved to Grand Junction, so they could be closer to her parents, Basil and Velma Knight.
Mildred was very active in P.E.O. through out her life and she started new chapters in Denver, Omaha & Grand Junction. Later when she moved to Raymore, MO, she joined the Belton-Raymore chapter in 2000.
Mildred enjoyed her family immensely and was so clever and tactful in providing advice on parenting that her children thought they originated the concepts. She enjoyed participating in her husband's hobbies of Nebraska Football and old cars. She was truly a remarkable woman that never sought the limelight, but profoundly affected those that knew her.
In addition to her husband, Bryant, she was preceded in death by her daughter Kaye, in 1976. She is survived by her son, Richard "Rick" (Starr) Nisley of Grand Junction, CO; son, Jeffery "Jeff" (Trudy) Nisley of Lenexa, KS; daughter, Julie (Ken) Buell of Raymore, MO; eight grandchildren, Scott Mesner; Kili (Jay) Mesner-Hogan; Lee (Brianna) Buell; Misty (Jesse) Weifenbach; Holly Nisley; Benjamin Nisley; Blair Nisley; and Blake Nisley. She is also survived by seven great grand children.
A funeral will be held at Cullen Funeral Home, Raymore MO. Visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM Tuesday, December 27, 2011. Service at 11:00 AM.
