Obituary

MICHAEL JAMES TURNELL

Michael James Turnell, of Peculiar, Missouri, passed away surrounded by his family, with his son, Ryan, holding his hand until his passing.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Cullen Funeral Home, Inc., 612 W. Foxwood Dr., Raymore, Missouri with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Peculiar Cemetery.

Mike was born in Durango, Colorado, on October 8, 1955, to E.W. Turnell and Lavonne (Kinny) Turnell. Shortly after graduating high school, Mike married his wife, Dorothy, on July 17, 1977. Their union was blessed with one son, Ryan Turnell.

Mike worked as a parts salesman and in several areas of the construction industry, where he was known for his strong work ethic, experience and practical skills. Above all, Mike loved spending time with his family. Mike, Dorothy, and Ryan enjoyed family vacations and shared a deep appreciation for the outdoors, especially at their properties. Mike also enjoyed growing his own vegetables and fruits in his garden and spending time with his beloved dogs, Nashville and Ginger. He truly loved barbecuing and grilling for family and friends, and he even won a couple of BBQ competitions.

Mike played an important role in Ryan’s life, serving as his Cub Scout leader and soccer coach, and teaching him the fundamentals of outdoor life and hunting. As Ryan grew older, father and son continued their tradition of yearly hunting trips, cherishing their time together.

In later years, Mike made several trips to Corpus Christi, Texas, to spend time with Ryan and his family. He especially loved seeing the ocean and watching his grandchildren grow.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, E.W. and Lavonne Turnell; his beloved wife, Dorothy Turnell; his brother, Donald Turnell; his sisters, Kathy Fox and Janice Davis; his brothers‑in‑law, Willard Welch and BJ Welch; and his sister‑in‑law, Linda Spencer.

Living in Mike’s memory are his son, Ryan Turnell (wife Gabriele), and their children, Josephinia Ann, Reed Michael, and Charles Rossario Turnell, of Corpus Christi, Texas; his sister, Patty Osborn of Garden City; along with many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
