MERITA FRANCES SPENA

Merita Frances Spena, age 91, of Belton, Missouri, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026 at home surrounded by family.

Services will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026 at South Haven Baptist Church, 16800 Bel-Ray Blvd., Belton, Missouri 64012. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Merita will then be laid to rest at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri.

Merita was born in Hardin County, Kentucky on January 19, 1935 to James Otis Kerrick and Lorena (Martin) Kerrick. In life, Merita was a woman of strong Baptist faith, most recently a member of South Haven Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and all sorts of crafting.

Merita was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Harlan Heck; second husband, Darryl Spena; and daughter, Karen Harms.

She is survived by her two sons, Keith Heck (JoAnn) and Bruce Heck (Angela); son-in-law, Ed Harms; stepchildren, Shari Steen, Mick Spena (Kathrine), Marty Spena (Ronda), Monty Spena (Jenny), Mark Spena (Beth), and Leesa Jackson; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be given to South Haven Baptist Church, 16800 Bel-Ray Blvd., Belton, Missouri 64012.
