MELVIN DEAN THOMPSON

Melvin Dean Thompson, son of Faye (Groves) and Clyde C. Thompson was born on November 7, 1940 in Lake City, Iowa.

Mel loved and served his country with ten years in the U.S. Army. During those ten years, Mel volunteered for two tours in the Vietnam War and served on various bases throughout the United States and Germany. After meeting his wife, Donna, Mel began a civilian lifestyle working as a car mechanic. The most recent job was with Midwestern Mechanical Safety in Merriam, Kansas for the last 28 years. Mel loved his family, friends, dogs, and car racing.

Mel passed away at home on October 12, 2013 following a four month battle with cancer. He would have turned 73 years of age in November.

Mel is survived by his wife of 43 years, Donna (Crawford) of the home near Belton, Missouri; two sisters, Barbara (Ray Dean) Garnatz of Spencer, IA, and Mary Anne (Denny) Baer of Marshalltown, IA; 8 nieces and nephews; and 18 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Faye.

Friends and family are invited to honor Mel on Saturday, October 19, with a visitation at 10:00am, followed by a memorial service at 11:00am at Cullen Funeral Home in Raymore, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice.
