MELVIN EDMONDS ROY 1929-2025

Melvin Edmonds Roy, age 96, of Belton, Missouri, took the hand of the Lord he loved and left this earthly home surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 2, 2025. He was reunited in his heavenly home with his parents, Melvin Sr. and Alice Roy, his sister Marlys Pickering and brother Douglas Roy.

Melvin was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on February 11, 1929. After high school, Melvin continued his education, graduating with a bachelor's degree from Wheaton College and a master's degree in Christian Ministry from Temple University. In 1956 he was joined in marriage with the love of his life, Shirley (Lindell) and their union was blessed with three children.

Christian ministry was an all-encompassing passion in Melvin's life which guided him throughout his career. He faithfully served as pastor in New Berlin, Illinois; Coon Rapids, Minnesota; Oelwein, Iowa; Wichita, Kansas; Leavenworth, Kansas; and Stilwell, Kansas. His dedication to faith and service touched countless lives across each community he led.

Melvin loved the outdoors and found great joy in spending time in God's creation.   He enjoyed camping, canoeing, hunting, and competing in field trials with his German Shorthair Pointers. A skilled craftsman, he took great pride in woodworking projects and in building and flying model airplanes. He was also an avid reader and gifted storyteller, sharing his love of learning and laughter with all who knew him.

Melvin's appreciation for music spanned all genres. Whether singing in a men's glee club during his college years, listening to blues and jazz, or playing his ukulele around campfires, music was a constant source of joy and expression in his life.

After retirement, Melvin and Shirley spent 7 years traveling in a 30-foot trailer throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. They then returned to their original home in Minnesota, settling in Brooklyn Center until 2013 when they moved to Carnegie Village in Belton Missouri.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Shirley Roy; three children, Mark Roy (Rachel Price), Debbie Foster (Alan), and Ruth Weeks (Jim); seven grandchildren; Gavin, Jasper (Shyua), Nick (Ashley), Kim (Jordan), Ali (Jason), Chris and Ashley (Todd); and ten great grandchildren.
