Obituary

Maurine C. Fry, 99, went to be with our Lord on April 3, 2010. She was born February 20, 1911 to John William and Lorena D. Crockett in Weston, MO. She was the last member of the John Durkes (Dur-kiss) family that came from Darnstadt, Germany in 1843 and bought a farm near Weston, MO.
She moved to Kansas City, KS in 1923. She married Ray E. Fry there in 1936. They moved many times in the ensuing years due to his work in sales of heating and cooling equipment then as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and the Korean Conflict.
In 1955 they moved to Weston, MO. Maurine was active in the Weston Christian Church and its Women's Fellowship, the Weston Historical Museum and the Weston Garden Club. She was a nature lover and grew many kinds of flowers which she shared with friends and her church. She also was passionate about animals of all kinds; cat's, dog's and horse's were her favorites.
She was divorced in 1969. She cared for her mother and an uncle until their deaths several years later. She operated the family farm until selling it in 1976.
She moved to Raymore, MO. in 1993. She soon joined the Quilter's Club and spent many hours quilting for the benefit of the Fellowship of John.
She was a member of the Raymore Christian Church.
In 2009 she moved to Tonganoxie, KS where she was cared for by her great-niece. Maurine loved the country life with all its beauty, birds, squirrels and rabbits. She so enjoyed watching the big oak tree's as the breeze gently blew the leaves. She was amazed at the beautiful sunrises and sunsets as she could view them across the horizon.
She is survived by her niece, Helen Beach and her husband James of Westwood, KS, her great-niece, Kay Moyer of Tonganoxie, KS, her cousin, Ina Crockett-Baker of Leavenworth, KS and her cousin-in-law, Elizabeth Crockett of Atchison, KS.
Graveside service will be at Graceland Cemetery, Weston, Missouri on Monday, April 12, 2010 at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Weston Historical Museum, P.O. Box 266, Weston, MO. 64098.
