MARY "SUE" WARD

Mary "Sue" Ward, age 85, completed her earthly journey on August 16, 2017. Moments after the feast of the Assumption, and with family present, she passed away at St. Luke's East, Medical Center.


Sue's Visitation is from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, August, 18th, 2017 at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Lee's Summit, Missouri. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 19th, also at St. Margaret's. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri.


Sue was born in Independence, Missouri, on September 14, 1931. In 1953, Sue married Robert 'Vince' Ward and together they were blessed with four children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Jinnette Shaffer (née Shoup). 'Vince,' her best friend and loving husband of 54 years, died in July, 2008. She attended St. Mary's elementary & high school with honors, and careered briefly as an accounting assistant.


She imparted a truly good nature and lovingly cared for her family. Sue ultimately focused her varied talents on making her house on Blue Ridge a very warm and secure home. She was skilled in many arts & crafts. Sue was a creative wordsmith, a talented seamstress, and an avid knitter. Slot machines feared her. Her memberships included the Jamestowne Society and St. Margaret's Catholic Church.


She is survived by her children, Robert J. Ward, Timothy D. Ward (Joyce), Michelle W. Licata (Jim), and Thomas V. Ward (Sandra); 13 grandchildren, Robert F., Evie Sue, Constance (Don), Victoria (Dan ), Vincent (Lolita), Chris, Dan, Joe, Stephanie, Veronica, John Fisher, Emilia, Peter; and 7 great-grandchildren, Timmy, Lillian, Suzanna, Beatrix, Devlyn, Alaina, and Killiam.
