MARY E. ROTH

Mary Elizabeth Backes Roth passed away on September 26, 2014. She was born April 11, 1923 in Malta Bend, MO, daughter of the late William and Anna Backes. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard J. Roth, sisters Selma Weimholt and Nellie Mertensmeyer, and brothers Arthur Backes and Joe Backes.

She graduated from St Mary's School of Nursing in 1944 and married Richard Roth at Wheeler Field Chapel in Honolulu, Hawaii, November 15, 1947. She was a long-time resident of Belton, MO and parishioner at St. Sabina's Catholic Church where she was involved in many services, including Legion of Mary. She was a religious woman with a determined love for her children and extended family. She was one of the kindest and most compassionate women we have ever met. Her kindness and caring personality was simply an extension of herself and her faith.

Mary is survived by 3 daughters and 1 son: Leilani K. Eveland Katz and husband Phil of Blue Bell, PA, William J. Roth and wife Carol of Wichita, KS, Kathleen J. Schnorenberg and husband Paul of Gardner, KS, and Janet M. Sirna and husband Steve of Grapevine, Texas, 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, brother Nelson Backes and wife Shirley, sister Billie Ann Drehle and husband John and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.

On Wednesday, October 8, at St. Sabina's Catholic Church, 700 Trevis Avenue, Belton, MO, Rosary will be at 9am, with visitation immediately following; funeral Mass will be at 10am. There will be a private burial at St. Teresa's Cemetery in Westphalia, Kansas.
