Obituary

MARY FRANCES McMURRAY REDWINE

Mary Redwine passed away with her loved ones by her side the evening of February 7, 2024, in Belton, MO.  She was 91.

Mary McMurray was born October 6, 1932, in Nashville, TN to Tom and Martha McMurray. She was raised in Tampa with her brother Sam.

Mary graduated from Hillsborough High School. She went to the University of South Florida where she received a bachelor's in education. She worked as a bookkeeper at Wal-Greens District Office.

She met her husband Elmer Redwine while he was stationed in Tampa with the United States Air Force. He courted Mary until they were married In August of 1953.

She spent many years as an Air Force wife traveling to places like Italy, with her son Jeffery with whom she raised and doted on.

Mary taught full time after Elmer retired from the Air Force, until they opened a resale children's clothing store that eventually transformed into their East of Oz Video Stores, to which they kept open and expanded to 3 stores until they sold them. Mary kept substitute teaching while Elmer delivered flowers for a local flower shop until his passing on August 31, 2004.  She never remarried. She continued to stay in the house they purchased in Raymore until her passing.

Mary was an avid reader and a lover of animals.  Although it was clear she loved cats and birds the most, there was not an animal around that she wouldn't take pity on and feed.  She spent most of her last days reading, doing crosswords, and visiting with her friends, Phyllis Fox, Janean Mills, and Dollie Smith. She always enjoyed and longed for her visits from her son and grandchildren when they could travel to visit her.

Mary McMurray Redwine is survived by her son Jeffery Mark Redwine, two granddaughters, Heather Jessica McNally, and Allison Redwine Moore; three great grandchildren, Danielle, Chelsea, and Wheeler Deams; and four great great grandchildren, Aiden, James, Arlo, and Arwyn.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Mary's memory to Cass County Library-Northern Resource Center or the HELP Humane Society in Belton, MO.
