MARY EMMAGENE MEDLIN

Mary Emmagene Medlin, age 79, of Peculiar, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

A celebration of Emmagene's life will be held with a visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr., Raymore, Missouri 64083. Burial will be held following visitation at Wills Cemetery in Peculiar, Missouri.

Emmagene was born in Sedalia, Missouri, on December 23, 1941, to Robert Steven Parker and Mary Ellen (Cochran) Parker, being the sixth of eight siblings. She started working at the young age of 14 as a carhop and dreamed of one day being a math teacher. She married her first love Joseph W. Miller (Jay) in 1958 and had her two girls and a son. Emmagene worked most of her life doing factory work, taking her from Kansas City to live in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Janesville, Wisconsin. She retired in 2003 after 21 years on the General Motors assembly line. She had a huge heart and sacrificed her dreams to be a Mother, wanting to provide a better life than she had as a child for her children by sometimes working 16 hours a day. After retirement, she returned to the Kansas City area to be close to her family, setting roots in Peculiar, Missouri.

Emmagene became known as Memaw in 1976 to her first grandchild, which was carried on by all her grandchildren and many others over the years. Some of her favorite memories were the summers with her grandchildren at the farm, vacations to Kansas City visiting, any and every family gathering or event. Family was her life.

In the winter of 1986, Emmagene (Sweet Pea) was joined in marriage with the second love of her life Virgil Medlin (Knot Head). Together they joined their families as one and shared twenty-seven years together before his passing in 2013.

Emmagene put her heart and soul as a committee member of the UAW 95 and her work with the Veterans Committee with her husband Virgil. She had a huge, sweet tooth, loved her animals, enjoyed crafting, soaps, and watching the Kansas City Chiefs. She also had quite the Beanie Baby collection. Her hugs, kisses, stubbornness, random phone calls all hours of the day for Diet Pepsi and onion rings among many other things that made her our Mom and Memaw will forever be missed.

Emmagene was preceded in death by her son Donald Joe Miller; husband Virgil Medlin;
Grandson Bobby Boyle; great-granddaughter Lilly Passler; great-grandson Skylar Billy; stepson Jeffrey Medlin; brother Gordon T. Parker; sister Betty Jean Craig; and brother Richard E. Parker.

She is survived by two daughters, JoAnna "Gyelene" Estes (Kevin) and Rita Miller; stepdaughter Michelle Billy (Michael); three brothers, Edward "Buster" H. Parker, Paul G. Parker (Beverly), and Larry H. Parker (Brenda); sister Marie E. McGinnis; four grandchildren, Corrie Posey (Robert), Ty Docman, Michael Passler, and Michael Billy, Jr (Tiffany); and eleven great-grandchildren, Bobbi, Colt, Emma, Amber, Fallyn, Harlee, Ryland, Levi, Chase, Morgan, Asher and many nieces, nephews and friends.
