MARY ELLEN HALBERT

Mary Ellen Halbert, age 100, of Raymore, Missouri, former longtime resident of Forrest City, and Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, February 4th at her home at the Foxwood Springs retirement village, where she was a beloved member of the community.

Mrs. Halbert was born September 4th, 1925, in Almyra, AR.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lowell Halbert. When they married, Jim and Mary Ellen agreed that he would make all the big decisions, and she would make all the little decisions. Jim would often say, in a joking but loving way, that in their 66 years of marriage, there never was a “big decision.”

Mary Ellen was the daughter of A.F. "Blondy" Thomas and Lillian Goodale Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Vivian Robertson, Velmagene (Leo) Gray, Venici Mann, and brother A.F. Thomas. She is survived by her niece and caregiver Lana Mann Newman, nephews Thomas Buchanan and John Gray, great nieces, and a great nephew.

Mrs. Halbert was retired from the First National Bank of Eastern Arkansas and Sears Roebuck. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Heber Springs, and a former member of Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church of Forrest City.

Memorial services will be held graveside at Forrest Park Cemetery in Forrest City. Memorials may be made to Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church, 402 Dillard, Forrest City, AR 72335 or to First Presbyterian Church Heber Springs, 1313 West Pine St., Heber Springs, AR 72543.
