MARVIN T. WORTMAN
Marvin T. Wortman, age 81, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away May 16, 2017 at St. Joseph Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his family. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:30 a.m., Friday, May 19, 2017 at Cullen Funeral Home in Raymore, Missouri.

On October 1, 1935, Marvin was born in Worland, Missouri. He was the son of Alfred T. Wortman and Annie May (Jennings) Wortman. On June 9, 1957 Marvin was united in marriage to Carol J. Carpenter, and together they were blessed with two daughters, Cindy and Amy.
Marvin proudly served his country in the Army. After fulfilling his obligation, he started his journey in music education. He received his bachelor degree in music education from Pittsburg State where he received his master degree. Marvin then received his doctorate degree in higher education from UMKC. Marvin was the director of bands at Grandview High School from 1965 to 1981. Afterwards, he continued working with band directors.
Marvin enjoyed gardening and traveling. His favorite vacation destination was Maui, Hawaii. He and his wife, Carol looked forward to their yearly island getaway watching dolphins, whales and the ocean.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Annie Wortman. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Carol J. Wortman; his daughters, Cindy Cox (Mike) and
Amy Berry; four grandchildren, Brandon Cox (Amy), Becky Moreland (Matt), Nick Berry (Chelsea), Chris Berry (Charlie); seven great-grandchildren, Makenna Lee, Caden Michael, Chase Alan, Kinze Lee, Oliver Michael, Autumn Marie and Aydenn Lea; and one brother Bobbie V. Wortman.
