MARTHA LOUISE ERICKSON

Martha Louise Erickson, age 68, of Raymore, Missouri passed away July 25, at Belton Regional Medical Center.

Martha was born September 18, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the daughter of Nicholas and Helen (Hackney) Terbovich. She grew up in Kansas City, Kansas and was a 1966 graduate of Wyandotte High School in Kansas City,Kansas.

On July 11, 1969 Martha was united in marriage with Michael Erickson, and together they were blessed with two children, Stephen and Wendy.

In addition to becoming a wife and mother, Martha was a Federal Reserve bank employee before choosing to follow her passion for teaching and pursue her education to earn her teaching certificate in Elementary Education.

She taught kindergarten and first grade for 15 years in Kansas City, Missouri Public Schools. She chose to complete her first master's degree in Early Childhood Special Education where she spent the rest of her teaching career. While working as an early childhood special educator, she decided to go further in her own education and pursued a second master's degree in English as a Second Language. She retired from teaching in 2013 from Raytown Public Schools. She loved children and it was evident through all of her interactions with them, her colleagues and parents, that this was where she was meant to be.

She along with her husband Mike enjoyed lake living and spent many weekends and vacations at their lake home. Marty was creative and made both her Raymore home and Lake home inviting to all who came through her door. She and Mike were members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church participating in many activities with church members.


Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Helen Terbovich. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Michael Lee Erickson; her children, Stephen M. Erickson (Julie), Oak Grove and Wendy L. Sutton (Doug) , Lee's Summit ; her siblings, Carol Halliburton (Patrick), New York, Patricia Cousey (Steve), North Carolina, Nicholas Terbovich, Washington Vicki Terbovich, California and Melissa Braymen Iowa; five grandchildren, Joshua, Mariah, Lane, Loren, Anthony and one great-grandson, Lincoln as well as one nephew Jonathan Cousey and two nieces Laura and Sara Braymen.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to "Hope in the Streets" (www.hopeinthestreets.org). Marty and Mike spent many years donating their time to this organization.

Celebration of Life will be August 10, 2017 from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm and Mass to follow at 5:00 pm at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Lee's Summit, Missouri.
