Lura was born on August 21, 1927 in Iberia, Missouri. She was the daughter of Herman Shelton and Genia (Denton) Shelton. Lura was one of three children including her brother Harold and sister Wilma.
After graduating from high school in Iberia, Lura married the love of her life, her high school sweetheart, Jesse A. Law, on May 15, 1946. Together they were blessed with three children, Eddie, Jerry and Leanne. Lura was a homemaker, beautician, and to Lura most importantly a seamstress. She developed a plethora of work experience working at Cowden's Shirt Company, Russel Stover's Candy, Nelly Don, Chocolate Soup Factory and most recently at Creative Home Collections. Lura did spend much of her time as a volunteer at the Belton Research Medical Center. After retirement, Lura continued to enjoy many things in life with her late husband, Jesse. Lura and Jesse visited nearly all fifty states during their time together.
As a woman of Christian faith, Lura was an avid member of the Hickman Mills Church of Christ where she attended faithfully. Lura would continue to sew anything from clothing for toys to dress suits. She took much pride in her ability as a seamstress. Lura was a great cook, especially when it came to pies. She loved her cats as well as throwing parties with her girlfriends at her home in Belton during her later years.
