Lois G. Harmon, age 86, of Raymore, Missouri passed away December 3, 2016 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. A Celebration of Life visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Cullen Funeral Home, Raymore Missouri. Lois was born September 2, 1930 in Wade, Oklahoma. She was the third daughter of Leon G. and Lillian L. Douthitt. Lois attended high school at Quapaw, Oklahoma. She met her soul mate, Bill Harmon when his family moved in across the street. He had been working in lead mines with his father since the age of 13. Bill developed Rheumatic fever and was sent home to die. His parents put a bed in the living room so he could see out the front window. His doctors could only attribute his miraculous recovery to the visit from "that girl" across the street.
Bill and Lois were married November 22, 1946 and moved to California where they worked at various jobs in the state. After their two sons, Bill and Dan were born they returned to Oklahoma to be closer to her family. They moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1950 when Bill went to work at Van Chevrolet as a mechanic. They moved to Belton for a few years and then to Raymore in 1957.
Lois and Bill started their own business and she took bookkeeping classes to help Harmon Tire & Supply get started while Bill was on the road selling tires. She kept the company books for 59 years, working closely with her husband, sons, grandsons, and great-grandsons.
Lois was an avid reader and became an accomplished writer, authoring several books about her family. Lois was a generous benefactor to the Heartland Baptist Church where she attended for 60 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill D. Harmon; parents, Leon and Lillian Doughitt; three sisters, Bea Brewington, Mary Williams, and Donna Calderon.
She is survived by her sons, Bill Harmon (Dianne), and Dan Harmon (Dee); 6 grandchildren, Debra Harmon, Bill D. Harmon, Steve Harmon (Shelley), Laurie Cupples (Keith), Heath Harmon, and Ryan Harmon; 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; 4 nieces, Tracy Giese (Curtis), Jeanne Zbinden, Kathy Robinson (Steve), and Robin Freeman.
Lois will be missed in the lives of her loved ones but she will be reunited with her soul mate, Bill, whom she grieved for 18 years.
