Larry Burns of Raymore, MO passed away Aug 28th 2010 after losing his battle with cancer. Larry was born May 28, 1938 in Jackson Co. MO to Lorraine Lynch of Kansas and Raymond Burns of Illinois. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Judy Burns, a sister Linda Ivens, and brothers; Michael Haviland and Roy Burns. Survived by a sister Vicki Willbanks of Grain Valley, MO. Larry grew up in the Shawnee Mission area, graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1956. Joined the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1958. Married Judith Ann Norris on June 5, 1961 and they had 3 children, Randy Burns, wife Tina of Fort Scott, KS, Becky Ryder, husband Al of Shawnee, KS, and Danny Burns, wife Maryanne of Olathe, KS. Married Penelope "Penny" Thomas on March 10, 2001; and added her children to his family and they are David Thomas of Stilwell, KS, Tricia Stewart, husband Paul of Lee's Summit, MO, Rick Thomas, wife Rhonda of Raymore, MO, Mike Thomas, wife Angel of Belton, MO, and Cathy Gantt, husband Gerald of Overland Park, KS. Larry leaves behind 20 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Larry enjoyed traveling, family, and working on his computer projects. He was a loving father and grandfather, a loyal friend, and a devoted husband and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be Monday August 30th at Cullen Funeral Home, Raymore, MO from 6 to 8 pm with grave side services on Tuesday August 31st at 10am. Family request donations to the Lawrence Burns memorial fund in lieu of flowers.
