KENNETH MARION CARTER
Kenneth Marion Carter, 88, of Peculiar, MO passed away March 14, 2015 at home in Peculiar. Kenneth was born January 18, 1927 in Keystone, Oklahoma, the son of Marion G. and Mary Fry Carter. His early childhood was spent in Pattonsburg, MO, but he graduated from Butler High School in Butler, MO. He married Lucille Ragan on May 10, 1945 in Fort Scott, Kansas. This marriage blessed them with four children. Kenneth worked for the city of Kansas City as a mechanic and BF Goodrich before opening his own garage. In 1948 the family journeyed to Portland Oregon, picking fruit on the way. Kenneth worked as a forest ranger in Colombia National Forest. He then worked for Alcoa Aluminum in Vancouver, WA. The family moved back to Kansas City where he worked at Bendix. In 1953 the family moved to a farm in Grandview, and then in 1957 they bought a farm in Peculiar, MO. In 1963 Kenneth left Bendix and bought the International Harvester business in Harrisonville. Later, he had the David Brown/Minneapolis Moline business. After a car accident, Kenneth went back to college before becoming a full time instructor at Longview College for 17 years. He later had his own consulting business Ken Carter & Associates. Kenneth enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leslie Carter; granddaughter, Shauna Heck and great grandson, Jonathan Schrock. He is survived by his loving wife Lucille of 69 years and 10 months; son, Gary Carter (Betsey) of Peculiar; daughters, Shirley Carter Garrett (David) of La Tour, MO and Teresa Carter Morton (Dudley) of Peculiar; son, Kenny Carter (Kathy) of Peculiar; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held from 10-Noon on Friday, March 20 at Cullen Funeral Home, Raymore, MO, followed by funeral services at Noon. Burial will be in Wills Cemetery, Peculiar, MO.
