KAREN JOYCE SPAULDING

Karen Joyce Spaulding, age 88, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025 at home.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. Karen's remains will then be laid to rest at Raymore Cemetery in Raymore, Missouri.

Karen was born in Marshfield, Wisconsin on April 8, 1936 to Otto J. Peters and Valeria (Mettelka) Peters. Karen graduated high school and worked as a secretary for the Lucas County Welfare Department in Toledo, Ohio before dedicating herself to raising her family.  In 1957 she was joined in marriage to her husband, Robert Spaulding.  Their love story was one for the ages, spanning over 70 years and was truly an inspiration to all who knew them.  Their union was blessed with four sons. In life, Karen was a woman of Catholic faith, most recently attending Mass at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Lee's Summit, Missouri. She loved going on vacation with her family, attending Broadway shows in New York City, dinner at Nick and Jakes in Overland Park and watching the Chiefs and THE Wisconsin Badgers.

Karen will be fondly remembered for her sweet spirit and her kindness and devotion to her family.  Some of our fondest memories will be remembering her laughing and enjoying family get togethers.  As a wife and mother, she epitomized the beauty of quiet strength.  Nestled between Bob and the four boys, she was definitely a rose among thorns.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Valeria Peters; son, Douglas Lee Spaulding; siblings, Audrey Ryan and Gary Peters; sister-in-law Shirley Herrmann, and brothers- in-law, Richard and Kenneth Spaulding.

She is survived by her husband Robert Spaulding; three sons, Mark Spaulding (Valerie), Richard Spaulding (Teresa), and Dean Spaulding (Dawn); seven grandchildren, Jordan Spaulding, Kelsey Spaulding, Lara Tran (Donovan), Tanner Spaulding (Mae), Mackenzie Harper (Ethan), Daniel Spaulding, and Elena Spaulding; and two great grandchildren, Olivia Durand and Carson Spaulding.
