In Loving Memory of Joseph Albert Reif Sr.
08/07/1948 – 02/27/2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph A. Reif Sr., a beloved father, father-in-law, husband, grandfather, and friend, who lost his courageous battle with lung cancer, a fight he faced with the same strength and resilience that defined his life. He passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family.
Joe was a man whose presence did warm a room. His huge smile and welcoming hugs were a source of comfort to everyone who knew him. Selfless, loyal, and unwavering in his devotion to his family and friends, he lived his life as a caretaker and role model, always putting others before himself.
A proud Army Vietnam veteran, Joe served in the Big Red One, receiving two Purple Hearts for his bravery. After an honorable discharge, he returned home to the love of his life, Doris V. Reif, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion, welcoming their two children, Joe Jr. and Jennifer.
Throughout his career, Joe worked tirelessly to provide for his family, spending years in the printing industry on night shifts before finishing his career driving a school bus for disabled children; where his kindness and patience left a lasting impact. Whether through his work or in his everyday life, he remained generous with his time and never knew a stranger.
He was a dedicated husband, a proud father, and an incredible grandfather to five grandchildren—Maximus, Madison, Hannah, Scarlett, and Joey—whom he adored. He shared a special bond with his son, Joe, spending time together at car shows, working on his Mustang, and going to car cruises. A true soldier in every sense, he carried his strength, loyalty, and determination through every chapter of his life.
Preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Doris V. Reif, his mother, Barbara Ruderman, and his father, Albert Reif. He leaves behind a family who will cherish his memory forever: his son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Julie Reif, with their children Madison, Hannah, and Joey; and his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Michael Mills, with their children Maximus and Scarlett.
Joe was the heart of his family and a light in the lives of many. His unconditional love, his selfless spirit, and his ever-present smile will be missed beyond measure. His legacy of kindness, loyalty, and love will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
A Memorial Service will be held on March 23, 2025 at 2:00 at Journey Bible Church in Olathe, where friends and family will gather to honor the remarkable man he was.
Rest easy, Joe. Your watch is over, but your love remains. 💙
