JOSEPH VERNON BURTON

Joseph Vernon Burton, age 95, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully at the Kansas City Hospice House on Friday, April 23, 2021.

A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2021 at New City Church Raytown, 8622 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, Missouri 64138. Following visitation will be a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Joseph will then be laid to rest at Floral Hills Cemetery.

Joseph was born in Independence, Missouri on July 3, 1925 to James B. Burton and Mary (Gardner) Burton. After graduating from high school Joseph courageously served his country in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. He was not only a D-Day survivor, but also received three purple hearts while serving our country. After returning home from military duty, he was joined in marriage with his late wife JoAnn (Rich) Burton on August 20, 1948. Together they were blessed with three children, Jolene, Michael, and Patricia. Sadly, on May 12, 1999 JoAnn passed away. The Lord gifted Joseph with an artistic talent. He was a commercial artist by trade and owned his own company, Burton Sign Company for many years before selling his business. Joseph enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He loved flying his planes, racing cars, riding motorcycles, boating and bowling. He continued his patriotic service as an active member of the Grandview VFW Post 8100, serving as Post Commander for several years. Joseph was a dedicated Christian and faithfully served in his church, always looking forward to worshipping and fellowshipping with his church family at New City Church – Raytown, formerly Loma Vista Baptist Church.

Joseph was preceded in death by his loving wife of over fifty years, JoAnn Burton; parents, James and Mary Burton; daughter, Patricia Ann Jackson; brother, Marvin Burton; and many cousins.

He is survived by his children, Jolene Hill and husband Mark, and Mike Burton; son-in-law, Brian Jackson; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Kevin, Jeffrey, Joseph, Richard, Paige and Dylan; twelve great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Midwest Transplant Network online at www.mwtn.org or the Alzheimer's Association, 3846 W. 75th Street #4126, Prairie Village, Kansas 66208.
