SMSGT JOHN EUGENE WALLS
Senior Master Sergeant USAF Retired, John Eugene Walls, 80, of Belton, MO, joined his wife Ann in their eternal home on March 7, 2014, following a long fight with cancer.
John was born November 30, 1933, in Macon, GA, the son of John and Sadie Miller Wall. He moved to Michigan as a boy, graduating from Albion High School before joining the United States Air Force in 1952. He retired January 29, 1974, at Richards-Gebaur AFB, Belton, MO after a distinguished career. He remained in Belton, where he raised his two children, Christy and Valerie Walls.
John excelled at every endeavor, from his career to his hobbies.
John's Air Force career took him all over the world. He met the love of his life, Ann, during a tour of duty to Scotland, marrying in her homeland in 1956. The family lived in England, Germany, Japan and the United States. Throughout their 58 year marriage, the couple traveled extensively to Europe, Canada and across the United States.
After his retirement, he enrolled in Park College, graduating with a Business Degree in 1975. John worked for Household Finance and the United States Marine Crops Finance Center before joining the Small Business Administration. He retired from the SBA after an illustrious career in March, 2003.
He was a passionate Boy Scout leader. He was a true animal lover, enjoying entering his and Ann's beloved Scottish Terriers, Japanese Chins and Persian cats into local dog and cat shows. He was active in local politics as a Council Member and Mayor Protem for Belton, MO. He served on the Mazuma Credit Union board as a board member over 20 years, including election to Chairman of the Board and was a Board Member Emeritus at his passing. He was an Elder of the Belton Presbyterian Church where he was elected a moderator of the Heartland Presbytery.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ann and son, Christy Eugene Walls. He is survived by his daughter, Valerie J. Walls and her husband Daryl Twibey; sisters, Francis Bennett, Debra Walls and Darlene Walls.
Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March, 13, 2014, at The Belton Presbyterian Church, 122 Main Street, Belton, MO 64012. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014, at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests Memorials be made in John's name to The Belton Presbyterian Church.
