JOHN ROBERT MELLINGER
John Robert Mellinger, age 95, of Belton, Missouri passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2026, at his home.
John was born on June 29, 1930, in Ronks, Pennsylvania on the family farm.
He entered the United States Air Force in 1948. While stationed at Carswell AFB Texas, he met Mary Jo Hall. They were married June 4, 1954, and were blessed with more than 71 years together before his passing.
After retiring from the Air Force in 1968 as a Senior Master Sergeant, they moved to their farm south of Belton raising Hereford cattle.
He began a 18-year career with King Radio in Olathe, KS., as he grew his own business, “Mell-Tronic Electric Services”, building and repairing industrial equipment, as well as repairing personal electronics like CB radios. He received his HAM license in 1960 and was an active operator.
In 1982, John and Mary spent the next 40 plus years breeding and exhibiting Yorkshire Terriers. They enjoyed many travels throughout the United States including Alaska.
He was an active individual who also enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling.
John considered his greatest service to be his spiritual commitment to the Lord and was a member of the Belton Church of Christ where he served many years as teacher, treasurer, deacon, and elder.
He was preceded in death by his parents Elizabeth and Clarence Mellinger; his mother and father-in-law, Naomi and Red Hall; his siblings, Richard and Ruth Mellinger, Al and Ann Mellinger, Betty Jane and Dick Neal, Anna Mary Mellinger, Dorothy Mellinger, and Nancy Zendt; a son, Larry Mellinger; and two grandsons, Brandon Mellinger and Errett Austin
Survivors include his wife, Mary Mellinger of Belton MO; a son, Tim (Connie) of Belton MO; daughters, Chellie Bea of Bartlesville OK and Roberta (Dave) of Harrisonville; seven grandchildren; and thirty-five great grandchildren.
